Case study — Hair salon / Brisbane CBD
HairZoom
A CBD salon with two decades of reputation and a website that had stopped keeping up with it.
02 — Hair salon / Brisbane CBD
HairZoom
HairZoom has been in Anzac Square Arcade since 2001 — senior stylists, a Goldwell Platinum salon, the kind of place people follow from suburb to suburb. The site they had was about a decade old, and looked it.
Salon sites usually bury the two things people actually came for. This one leads with them: the full price list sits in the open, women's and men's split by tab, and the colour work runs as a gallery rather than a stock-photo carousel.
The palette does the positioning. Near-black and gold means every photograph of hair on the page reads as the brightest thing in the room, which is exactly the right hierarchy for a colourist.

Before and after
Same business. Different decade.

The build
What was there before
A purple-to-lime gradient, a stock model shot, a PROMO OF THE MONTH starburst, and the salon's story in dense paragraphs down the left. The design had been live long enough to be archived repeatedly, and it read as older than the business it represented.
The two things a person actually arrives wanting — what it costs and what the work looks like — were the two things hardest to find.
Putting the answers in the open
The full price list moved to the front of the site, split by women's and men's, with treatments and colour priced line by line. No enquire-for-pricing.
The colour work became a gallery rather than a decorative background, because for a colourist the portfolio is the pitch.
Letting the hair be the brightest thing
The palette is near-black and gold. Against it, every photograph of hair on the page becomes the brightest object in view — the right hierarchy for a business whose product is colour.
Built in Next.js, so the gallery and the price list stay fast on a phone in the middle of the CBD.
